We decided to put together one of the few rigs we had been dreaming about. A setup with all the "bells and whistles" with a total weight of 184g or 6.49oz when complete! We started with the reel, a Shimano Vanquish 2000SHG. Already a favorite of ours. It&light, smooth and has the latest technology Shimano offers. Then we we chose a rod, the Evergreen Superior "Limber Tip SS". This is our Unicorn, it has all the high-end components such as Torzite guides, Toray T1110G graphite, Fuji reels seat, all in a super light weight package and is difficult to find. Most places sell out very quickly and usually can&keep them in stock. As for the line, we couldn&put just any line on it, so we chose the sleek and supple, Varivas Avani SW Finesse. It&an 8-strand vs, the typical 4 strand available making it more abrasion resistant. It&light, pliable and is stealthy in the "white silver". We really like the way it turned out. The only thing left to do was test it out. We made it to Dixon Lake, caught a few small ones right away, then decided to leave the crowds and search on our own. We were not disappointed. Our first stop and we hooked into something BIG! At first, it came in almost immediately, not realizing it was hooked. That changed as soon as it saw the net. The battle was ON and the Vanquish was screamin&After about 4-5 minutes of back and forth, he came in and it was game over. At 6.6lbs it wasn&the biggest but no slouch either.
