Mannerheimin Linjalla is a Finnish wartime song about the Mannerheim defensive line on the Karelian Isthmus, of course named after the legendary Baron and Marshall of Finland, Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim. The "Hakkapeliittas" mentioned in the song were Finnish Light Cavalry that served with the Swedes in the Thirty Years War. The Lottas mentioned are Finnish women of the "Lotta Svärd", an auxiliary/logistical paramilitary force that was formed in 1918 during the Finnish Civil War. The Lottas were known particularly for their charity/ volunteer social work during the 20&and 30&but during the Second World War, became an important auxiliary force of the Finnish Military, working in hospitals and foward air raid spotting positions.
