Auplopus carbonarius, a spider-hunting wasp

A male showing the characteristic pale marks on the face and the tip of the abdomen. This is a fairly scarce species. It builds a nest from mud, and provisions it with spiders for its larvae to feed on. From Buckinghamshire, 25 May 2015.
