Несе Галя воду (Halya Carries The Water) - Ukrainian jazz /Український джаз

Nastasia Y & DoVira - "Nese Halya Vodu" Halia carries the water, and Ivan is trying to court her, but she won’t even let him have any water. She says “The water is in the well - go and get your own!.” This melancholy arrangement is not common for this usually happy and quirky song, and some might even call it a jazzy arrangement. One day, I heard a haunting repeating motif in my head, inspired by the element of water in this song, and I had to find a piano right away to play it. I started to play and sing this famous folk song over it, and the arrangement just came to life naturally. I enlisted some incredible musicians who were studying with me at the Humber jazz program (in Toronto), and we recorded it as an experiment for school. It went so well, that we decided to create a project out of it, fusing my culture with modern elements. The project was called "DoVira", (meaning trust in Ukrainian), and this became our first single. Джазова, абсолютно не традиційна версія цієї пісні про Галю, яка то манить Івана, то наче й ні. І про Івана, який носиться за Галею і першокласно інтерпретує дівочі натяки! Одного дня я почула цю мелодію (ту, що ви чуєте на початку відео) і відтоді вона не виходила з моєї голови. Для мене - саме так тече вода - головний елемент цієї історії.
