(service update, see below) Here is my video when I replaced C1260 and C1261 capacitors when this Panasonic DMR-E85H hard drive/DVD digital video recorder failed to turn on. Another symptom when these capacitors on power board fail is DVR continually displays "PLEASE WAIT" because the HD does not spool up. [11-19-18 EDIT, replaced C1460 and C1461 with C1260 and C1261] I found a 2009 video by Youtube user "leapnlarry" where he showed how to replace these capacitors, it&been done before but I wanted to video what I did (and fix is exactly what Larry described). I edited some of the video, left in portions to show sometimes removing/installing boards and desoldering is not always quick as first expected. I replaced the 680 uF capacitors with 1000 uF as Frys Electronics in Sunnyvale, CA did not carry the 680. Original was 10V, these were 25V so I expect these to last for some time. [11-27-18 update, I replaced these with original specified values.] Panasonic DMR-E85H has reputation of these power capacitors to frequently fail. This is a very nice DVR, it and similar HDD recorders were only on the market for short period, probably yanked as making recordings is very easy. Just push the button and recording instantly begins (no formatting or inserting media). It does not require internet connection or subscriber service. Recordings can then be archived to DVD. Unit also has timer just like VHS recorders. It&drawback is it is not digital, only standard definition NTSC analog.
