Monster Power PowerCenter AV800 Surge Protector--And Why You Don't Need It

Originally recorded August 14, 2020. You may have heard the expression "You can&polish a turd". Monster has made an art out of polishing turds. They can take the cheapest, sleaziest components, and market them in a different light. Come to think of it, that&exactly what Apple does. Now this power strip, surge protector, or whatever you want to call it, isn&necessarily Harbor Freight quality, but it&still made in China of overseas components. They had the case done up all pretty, added some LEDs, and that&about it. There¬ much that sets this apart from many of the other surge protector/power strips out there. Monster uses lines like "With exclusive Fireproof technology, you can rest easy that your home, family, and equipment, are safe." Whoa. It&a SELLING FEATURE now! What they want you to believe is they&referring to the MOV inside, not going on fire when it blows up. Instead, the truth of the matter is the plastic case of the whole unit is relatively fireproof, so the brief flashover of the MOV won&light the plastic on fire. Quite honestly, just about every Chinese product I&reviewed claims that the plastic is fireproof, or at least flame retardant. So as I said before, Monster has made an art out of polishing turds. With their fancy way of wording things, they make them sound so much greater than they actually are. Are these better quality that the el-cheapo stuff? Absolutely.
