Today we’ll be looking at something a bit different for the channel as we unbox the 61 note, Casio LK-S250, and see what Stu’s initial thoughts and impressions are. While you might think a 61 note keyboard like this is built strictly for having fun and playing around, an instrument like this is actually pretty common with all types of pianists who need a supplemental, highly portable piano option. Touch Sensitive Casio says the LK-S250 is touch sensitive, and after getting it out the box and plugged in, I can confirm that this is indeed true. This is a pretty refreshing feature for a 61 note keyboard, and while this doesn’t mean a player is going to develop great piano technique on this instrument, the benefit is that it can be used as a MIDI controller with some control over the velocity. Interface The commands and controls are really well laid out - there’s nothing too ambiguous. Volume control and navigating the different tones is super easy. Tons of Sounds There’s 400 total tones on here, which is of course a huge amount of variety. The quality of the different tones obviously isn’t great, but when you consider that this instrument costs only $200 CAD, having 400 total tones is great value.
