Fred Astaire performs in Blackface in the 1936 Fred Astaire–Ginger Rogers film Swing Time. Swing Time is a great movie despite including a blackface scene, the famous “Bojangles of Harlem” dance. On its face, the scene is a tribute to the great black tap dancers Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and John Bubbles, but the blackface Astaire wears comes across as unnecessarily racist.
