The Toyota Yaris has is origins way back in the year 1999 with the Echo. The Echo enjoyed a bit of success thanks to the lack of competition. Fast forward to 2013 and this subcompact car segment is packed full of great competitors. This 3rd generation car has gone through a couple of iterations but the practical hatchback design has stood the test. The engine that powers the 2013 Toyota Yaris is nothing revolutionary. The 1.5 liter 4-cylinder makes 106 horsepower and 105 lb-ft. of torque with fuel economy figures of 30 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway. Transmission choices are between a 4-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual. Some other competitors in this segment are the: Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Sonic, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and the Mazda2. A couple of those cars feature a direction injection engine while others feature a 6-speed transmission. The Yaris may be a bit behind the times but what separates the little Toyota from the competition is the great resale value and reliability. If you are looking for a functional and reliable car that is going to serve a purpose, the 2013 Toyota Yaris does it as well as anyone. See More Car Videos Join Our Facebook Page
