As Britain was fighting its way out of German military dominance during the last stages of World War 2, the Minister of Aircraft Production, Lord Brabazon of Tara, created a singular group with a particular objective. The Brabazon Committee was tasked with planning the needs of Britain&postwar civilian aircraft market, and its members issued five different types of aircraft, including one that could carry 100 passengers in transatlantic routes from the United Kingdom to the United States. A winner eventually emerged, and it was called the Bristol Brabazon in honor of the man who had developed the specification. The revolutionary and colossal aircraft resembled a B17 bomber with its 230-foot wingspan and over 177 feet of length and included separate sleeping compartments, dressing rooms, and even a cinema!
