The Berceuse op 57 composed by Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) in 1844 is a lullaby in D flat major. At first the composer titled the work Variations, but the title was altered for publication to the current Berceuse. It was dedicated to lady Elise Gavard (1824-1900), Chopin&student. This work is a clear example of Chopin&talent in improvisation and construction of variations. The melody and its fourteen varying accompaniments however are truly a work of art. They resemble flowers and ornaments built on different branches of a tree: beautiful and delicate; therefore the work requires pianists&mastery of touch to interpret.
