PASION CRIOLLA - Tango Milonga (Creole Passion) (Salvador Grupillio) Marek Weber and His Orchestra (Recorded in Europe) Victor, 21021-B, 1927. I have found myself immersed in the popular music of Germany and Poland from the 1920s and 1930s, after discovering the many "Schallplatten" collections posted on Youtube. Now, imagine my surprise and delight, to find in my own inherited collection of American 78rpm records, a Marek Weber recording! There exist many European recordings of the Marek Weber orchestra, which was based at the Hotel Adlon in Berlin. This record was issued by Victor here in the United States in 1927. I wonder if it was recorded especially for Victor or was it also released in Europe under another label at the same time? "A Media Luz" appears on the reverse side. "Pasion Criolla" appeared in Victor record catalogs at least through 1939 (along with several dozen other Marek Weber recordings), which shows the continued popularity of tango or Marek Weber or both! For this record, I must thank my Uncle (my mother&twin brother, one of the "Buffington Children" mentioned in an earlier presentation), as he is the one who originally purchased it (his initials are written on the label). This copy would date from the 1930s, as he was a child in 1927 when the record was released. Illustrations are from two magazine advertisements (1933 and 1934) in the collection of abendstunde49.
