Classic poetry reading by Shanid. CHARLOTTE BRONTE (1816-1855) Born Charlotte Bronte in Thornton, Yorkshire, England. Her father was an Irish Anglican clergyman. Educated at the Clergy Daughters&School, Roe Head School and Pensionnat Heger in Brussels, Belguim. Initially left school to tutor her sisters but soon undertook the role of governess for many prominent Yorkshire families. She initially wrote poetry even though she had been advised by Poet Laureate, Robert Southey, that "Literature cannot be the business of a woman&life". &Eyre&(1847) gave the critical recognition and commercial success that her early poetry did not.
