Removing and cleaning the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve on a pre-2006 Volkswagen Golf Mark 5, 1.4L petrol. If there’s a fault with your EGR valve, the check engine usually light comes on with the fault code P0408 being the most common. You might not notice any change in how the engine runs or you may notice that the engine idles rough, has poor performance or even increased fuel consumption. If so, then a dirty or clogged EGR valve is one of the possible causes of these issues. If the valve is clogged up with carbon deposits then cleaning it may fix the problem. It’s certainly worth a try before replacing the valve. If you do need to replace it, the part number is 036131503T. Thanks for watching.
