June 16, 1998 - After snapping a 41-year Stanley Cup drought the season prior, the Detroit Red Wings climbed to the top of the heap for a second consecutive season, sweeping the Washington Capitals 4-0 in the 1998 Stanley Cup Finals. The 1997-98 season took on significant importance to the Red Wings following a near-fatal limousine accident involving teammates Slava Fetisov and Vladimir Konstantinov as well as team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov.
