On February 10, 2024, Medina Township Police were dispatched to Walmart on a report of a theft. Walmart loss prevention associates had the two suspects detained. The pair were accused of "skip scanning" items. The 20-year-old woman would place one item on top of another and only scan only 1 of the items. She would then place both items in her shopping bag. At one point, a Walmart associate performed an intervention and scanned one of the skipped items, but the woman continued to "skip scan" after the intervention. After payment was rendered, the pair attempted to leave the store, where they were stopped at the exit, and asked to enter the loss prevention office. The total value of the merchandise stolen was $73.49. Both were charged with misdemeanor theft. On June 4, 2024, they pled guilty and were fined $300 each plus court costs.
