#VST Hi everyone! Welcome to the Merriam Pianos YouTube channel. We’ve got another one here in our ongoing series on VST plugins as we explore the highly popular Garritan CFX. The CFX is Yamaha’s flagship 9-foot concert grand piano, and it was recorded at Abbey Road studios for this VST. Please like the video below, and if it’s your first time on the channel, subscribe and hit that notification bell! Background: The Garritan CFX works as both a standalone, but also within the most popular DAW’s. It comes with two sets of samples - a full sample set, and a compact set which requires fewer resources in your computer. We will be looking at the full set today. There are a number of highly functional presets right out of the box, organized into ‘Classic’, ‘Contemporary’, and ‘Player’. The ‘Player’ preset has a lot of wild user-generated presets that produce some pretty out there tonal effects. ‘Contemporary’ is geared towards those looking for a brighter, poppier tone, while the ‘Classic’ preset is for more exposed playing, like solo piano playing. Sound: The default sound on its own is very nice, especially for a default patch. You’re going to want to be using a good trigger if the goal is to maximize the potential of the VST. Playing through the other patches, and it’s clear that there’s a plethora of highly usable, great-sounding presets here. Interface: The interface is well laid out. There’s the ability to fine-tune the instrument for whatever reason...
