Sam takes a look at the Acoustic Fly , the latest addition to Blackstar&popular battery powered amp range. Blackstar Fly 3 Acoustic Amp: Blackstar Fly 103 Acoustic Extension Speaker Cabinet: Blackstar Fly-Pack Acoustic Amplifier and Extension Speaker Cabinet: Just like the other electric guitar and bass models in the range, the Acoustic Fly is a surprisingly punchy 3w amplifier, considering it’s tiny size, and it’s available either singularly or in a stereo pack, like the one we’re looking at here. This additional speaker bumps the output power up to 6 watts, and gives you a true stereo image, so when you connect an mp3 player to the line input, everything’s panned where’s it should be as opposed to converting the signal to mono like a lot of other practice amp line ins do. The tonal circuit on the main input has been specific designed for an acoustic guitar. There’s controls for volume, treble and bass, a shape switch which scoops some of the mid-range frequencies, which sounds great for harder strumming, and then there’s an onboard echo to add bit of colour to your tone, and this can be tweaked to sound like a kind of short room reverb, or longer tape style echos. As well as being a great little acoustic amp, if you buy the stereo pack, the Fly 3 also makes for a great little pair of active speakers that you can use with something like a computer, an mp3 player, or you could even get away with using it as a stereo keyboard amplifier, as outside of the EQ...
