Arif Mirzoyev: 24 Preludes: 6 - Aria (Op. 2 No. 6)

Phillip Sear plays a short but powerful piece by the Azerbaijani composer Arif Mirzoyev (1944- ). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Azerbaijani composer, organist and pianist Arif Mirzoyev ( Ариф Мирзоев,1944- ) was born in Baku, and studied at the state conservatory there (one of his teachers was Shostakovich&pupil Kara Karaev), and later at the Moscow conservatory. He now lives in Germany. His works include an organ symphony dedicated to JS Bach. This piece comes from the first part of a cycle of 24 preludes composed over the period 1966-89, and specifically from a collection of six written in 1966, which form the first &as the composer describes it.
