Well, Northern Ireland is kind of a country. It’s also often called a province, or just a region. Regardless, IT is part of the United Kingdom. Ireland is not. Ireland, aka the Republic of Ireland, has officially been around since 1937 and has been at least a somewhat independent country since December 6, 1921 and the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which ended the Irish War of Independence.
