Elk Mountain Highland Games Parade & May Pole Dance

On 29-30 April 2017, the 4th Annual Elk Mountain Highland Games & May Day Festival were held in the community of Wimer, eight miles north of Rogue River, OR. During this two-day event, dance around the May Pole, join in the drum circles, watch the Heavy Athletics & Edged Weapons competition, see the SCA bring Medieval history to life, enter the Beard & Braid contest. Performers included Coyote Rising Puppet Troupe, Southern Oregon Scottish Bagpipe Band, Around the Hearth, Shiviti Dance Company, JenUwin Playtime, Sequoia, Shiviti Dance Company, Curtain Climbers, Blarney Stone Kissers, John Dough Boys, Joe Ross Celtic Solo, Juniper Berries, Def Cougar Mellencamp, Impulse Control This Spring family-friendly celebration is a fundraiser for the Evans Valley Education & Community Center. Built in 1923, the 28-acre facility was a public school from 1923-2010, when closed by the local school district. Community members petitioned the school board to return the property to the community of Wimer (a small town 8 miles north of Rogue River). Evans Valley Community Assn, a 501c3 under the Oregon PTA Congress, obtained ownership of the facility in December, 2012 and community efforts are bringing the old school back to life.
