The UV-5R is a low cost handheld F.M. transceiver with a very wide range of operating frequencies in the 2 Meter and 70 Centimeter bands. It can transmit at a max output power of five watts. The radio has all the features that you would need to interface with repeaters or other radios, such as frequency offsets and DTMF tones. It even has nice features - like a dual watch. You can expects a usable range of a couple miles with stock antennas. The physical construction of the radio is very solid - the antenna defiantly leaves a lot of room for improvement thought! The battery last for more then 24 hours of standby. Unfortunately its not waterproof. Other then that, the China&really outdid themselves this time!
