Сanyon is a kind of gorge, the upper edges of the sides (walls) of which are more clearly bounded, which is typical for flat areas (sections) composed of sedimentary rocks, where the erosive force of the river cutting through the canyon is very high. Canyons are characterized by sheer sides, sometimes up to negative angles of inclination[3]. Gorges that do not belong to the type of canyons, most often lie in mountainous areas and their upper limits (edges) do not have clear outlines and are often limited to mountain peaks. According to this definition, the deepest and longest canyon is the Colorado Canyon reaching a depth of 1800 m. In addition, the definition of the canyon corresponds to the middle part of the fjord North-West of Scoresby Bay on the east coast of Greenland — at this point the fjord reaches a depth of 2700 m (while the underwater part is at a depth of 1314 m). The deepest canyon in Eurasia is the Bayanbulak River Canyon in the Eastern Tien Shan, reaching a depth of 1400 m. Bayanbulak in the upper reaches flows through a wide mountain plain, then in the middle reaches in the flat part cuts through a canyon, after which the river passes through a mountain gorge and flows out to the foothill plain, and then flows into Lake Bagrashkel.
