An air (Italian: aria) is a song-like vocal or instrumental composition. It is a variant of the musical song form often referred to (in opera, cantata and oratorio) as aria. Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) composed two of the best-known airs. This one is the second movement of his Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, composed in the first half of the 18th century. Later in 1871, August Wilhelmj, a German violinist, arranged for violin and piano as Air on the G String. J. S. Bach (1685-1750) was a German Baroque composer who spent most of his life working as an organist and choirmaster, but was also employed as a composer of many different Royal Courts. ★ AIR (J.S.
