How To: Hack an old 18 volt Makita BL1815 for new Makita Tools

Got a new DHP481Z power tool but i heard somewhere it required 3 AH batteries. Now I know why, they have a little piece of metal which blocks older batteries from being used - not sure why entirely. Example, the BL1815 1.5 AH battery doesn&fit in it, but they have a new BL1815N model 1.5Ah battery that apparently does fit. The difference?
