This clip is for those interested in the rifle setup I use for back-pack hunting sambar stags in Australia. It goes without saying, I am well and truly obsessed with stalking sambar stags, and last year I bought a .30-06 calibre in the Sako 75 Hunter (Laminate Wood/Stainless) to be used almost exclusively for sambar in the Victorian High Country. Previously, while living and hunting in New Zealand, my go to rifle was always the .25-06 calibre in the Tikka 695 (Synthetic/Stainless). Having had many successes on red stags, chamois and tahr usin with my trusty .25-06 (which is a necked-down version of the .30-06 case), I decided to go heavier in the same case design. So far, its early days (for me) with the .30-06 calibre - but stay tuned to see how it performs on a couple of backpack sambar hunting trips in the Vic High Country later this year. The reloads I plan to use are: * (0.4") 220g Sierra Round Noses (flat bases) with 53g of AR2209 powder - intended for bush hunting out to 200m * (0.67") 200g Sierra GameKings (boat tail) with 52.7g of AR2209 powder - intended for shooting onto opposite faces and ledges betw 200m - 400m Other reloads I have had success with are: * (0.60") 180g Nosler Accubonds with 55g of AR2209 powder * (0.75") 180g Hornady Round Noses with 57g of AR2209 powder * (0.80") 168g Barnes TSX (boat tail) with 57.5g of AR2209 powder Thanks for watching MM
