Paramecium bursaria: The Animal-Lichen

Some fungi maintain symbiotic relationships with algae. They protect the algae and the algae give them food. We call these arrangements lichens. Paramecia bursaria are animal-like protists that can move, learn and make decisions, and they have very similar relationships with algae. They are functionally animal-lichens.
