He migrated to the United States and settled in the quiet Santa Fe, New Mexico. There, he played in Hotels and Restaurants until a small time New Age record label by the name of Higher Octave Music offered him a recording contract. Nouveau Flamenco (New Flamenco), Ottmar Liebert&debut album, was a tremendous success upon its release in 1990. It ultimately went Platinum, and paved the way for Liebert&popularity in both the New Age and the mainstream markets. His music, almost overnight, dominated the radio waves, having every new listener asking the question, "Who is that?!!"
