Robotics engineer Finch has lived for years in an underground shelter on a scorched Earth, where, after a devastating solar catastrophe, even an ordinary walk under the open sky has become deadly. His only family is his dog Goodyear, for whom Finch continues to hold on, repair equipment, search for supplies, and preserve the last traces of human warmth in an empty world.
