Locals call it a Leihladen - the borrowing shop. North of Berlin¢re, Leila is a library of things - a pioneer of sharing in a consumer society. Founded by Maike Majewski and Nikolai Wolfert, the shop-without-money now has 500 members who donate goods to be loaned out. In return, members can borrow any of the shop&2,000 items. Power tools are among the most popular. But you can also find inflatable boats, kitchen appliances, ice skates and toys. The not-for-profit venture is run by volunteers who seek to create not just a resource of goods to share, but also a community centre at the heart of the neighbourhood. Is it an idea worth sharing?
