HP Velotechnik Grasshopper electric Recumbent Bike - Bafang BBS01B 36v 250w

I recently converted this HP Velotechnik Grasshopper recumbent bike to electric assist using a Bafang BBS01B 36v 250w mid drive motor kit and 36v 17ah battery. The Bafang BBS01B 36v 250w is a cheap and easy way to turn your standard recumbent into a recumbent ebike. The installation of the Bafang BBS01B is fairly straightforward for a competent DIY bike mechanic and involves firstly removing the crankset and bottom bracket. The motor shaft fits into the bottom bracket shell and the motor is secured using a fixing plate and a steel inner lockring and alloy outer lockring. The Bafang DP C18 colour display is mounted above the left hand grip, making it easy for the rider to adjust the power levels on the go. The battery fitted to this particular bike is a 36v 17ah Tigershark case battery, that was mounted on the rear pannier rack. The HP Velotechnik Scorpion is a really great recumbent bicycle and the added electric assist enhances the ride even more. I converted this recumbent for a Lady customer who was just getting back into riding after a long time off. She sent me an email recently to say how pleased she is with the conversion and that she had recently rode the bike all the way from Saint Austell to Land&End in Cornwall UK - a distance of 53 miles!
