Red Bull Racing remain the ones to beat in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award. As at the season opener in Australia, the Bulls were again fastest at changing tires during the second race in Bahrain but were quicker than Williams and Ferrari by only the narrowest of margins this time. Max Verstappen was turned around in 2.17 seconds. Robert Kubica got fresh tires in 2.18 seconds, and Sebastian Vettel was stationary in the pits for 2.19 seconds – it doesn’t get any closer. Unlike in Australia, where tire wear was significantly lower than in Bahrain’s dusty desert, teams opted for a two-stop strategy across the board, resulting in a total of 41 pit stops, half of which were performed in under three seconds, which is fine testament to the pit crews’ strong performance. However, the race was not decided in the pits. Charles Leclerc, who appeared to be heading for certain victory, had to ultimately settle for third place behind Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes due to technical problems. Verstappen narrowly missed the podium in fourth place despite his DHL Fastest Pit Stop.
