Passionate Past Legends
Jungmann (1824-92) was Prussian born, but spent most of his working life in Rome and Vienna. &(Dreams of Home) is perhaps his best-known work. The piece has a lot in common with the music of his contemporaries Gustav Lange and Carl Bohm - it has a simple, slightly sentimental melody, a vaguely Alpine feel, and is well written for the drawing-room pianist. My thumbnail shows an evening view of an Alpine village by Jaromir Sokołowski. ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear
