So, before I begin, wish is a very complicated verb because it can be used in many ways. But in this lesson, I’m just going to show you the three most common ways. Number 1. Wishes about the present. We use wish + past simple to talk about a present situation that you want to be different but understand that it can’t be. For example, I wish I were taller. (I’m not that tall, but I would like to be.) I wish I spoke French. (I don’t speak French, but I would like to able to.) I wish I didn’t have to go to work today.
