This is a series of clips testing the audio quality of my EOS R&built-in mic and comparing it to an external Shure Lenshopper VP83F. It is NOT a product review or a HOW-TO video. It is long and fairly boring. It was really an exercise to help me get more familiar with setting up my camera with an external mic and then editing and syncing the clips in DaVinci Resolve. There are a few different combinations of recording settings for the EOS R and the Shure Lenshopper VP83F that I wanted to compare. 1. I wanted to hear the difference between the EOS R&internal mic and the VP83F. I was pretty confident that the VP83F would sound better and it was. 2. When setting the mic levels, you have the combination of &level&on the camera and &gain&on the VP83F. The combination of these will give you the final audio level. I wasn&sure if it is better to keep the &gain&level low and increase the &level&on the camera to set peaks between -6 dB and -12 dB. Or, if it is better to do the opposite - set &gain&level higher and lower the camera&&level&I&reached out to both Canon and Shure for their advice and Canon hasn&responded (except one person on the community forum basically advised me to RTFM (note- I did and it doesn&address this). Mike, an Applications Engineer for Shure, recommended setting the camera gain as low as possible and the VP83F&mic gain as high as needed to have peaks at -6 dBFS. Your average level should be somewhere between -10 dBFS and -20 dBFS. 3. Also, when connecting...
