Originally, I started writing this song about my experiences growing up on the internet. In specificity, my very first internet friend, Bonnie, and how I began to learn about genuine friendships in defiance of being taught to never interact with strangers. But, I began to explore the idea of a love story between Bonbon — referred to as Bonnie — and Lyra, as the lyrics developed. “CUTIEMARKS” deals a lot with my childhood memories and trauma, and so I really wanted to hone in the sounds and feelings of a sort of brash, youthful love.
