Johann Jacob Froberger (1616-1667) was a German Baroque composer, one of the chief influences upon the great J.S. Bach. Though he was well- known in his own country as a virtuoso, he did not desire to publish many of his works, only authorizing two during his lifetime. This toccata (FbWV 102) is one of Froberger&finest works published posthumously. Though it is titled "toccata," the piece consists of three discrete sections: A prelude, a fugue, and, finally, a toccata. Each is structured differently and demands a different pace, but each tie together in a coherent way, so that the listener never feels he has changed pieces altogether. This recording is the result of my many attempts to get it completely on camera. It&still rough in some places, and I needed a page turner, but I&pleased with the result. Some movement in the back of the sanctuary prompted me to turn my head a little (unprofessional, I know), but this take felt particularly well cued in. I tried my best to articulate the fugal section consistently. I am open to comments and criticism, should you wish to share them. Soli Deo Gloria, G. A. Burns
