California Dreaming by John & Michelle Phillips

Originally recorded by Barry McGuire with The Momas and the Papas singing backup. Then the lead track was re-recorded, with Denny Doherty singing lead. Cass Elliot got the lyrics wrong and sang “began to pray” instead of “pretend to pray”, the lyrics written by Michelle Phillips. The winter of 1963 was especially cold in New York City and the song was about wishing they were someplace warm. With nighttime temperatures going into the teens, we can relate.
