Before stem separation, producers had to find clever ways to pull records apart. In this follow-up to 'Forgotten Art of Layering Samples', we look at those old-school tricks and how they can be recreated today with Serato Sample. In this video, we're revisiting art of layering samples, this time looking at how old-school Hip-Hop producers worked around limits of their gear and how those same ideas translate today. From isolating basslines with tricks on SP-12, chopping drums from open breaks, using acapellas from 12-inch singles and layering fragments from different records, producers have always found creative ways to pull existing music apart and build something new. Then we'll show how those techniques can be recreated with Serato Sample, using modern stem separation to speed up process while still keeping the spirit of classic sample-based production alive.
