I visited Flanders Fields wanting to see as many sites as possible. Those that I did see were the grave sites in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Passchendaele, Polygon Wood, it&cemeteries and memorials. The preserved battlefield of Hill 60(Battle of Messines) Unearthed ammunition-the iron harvest. Field Dressing Station, site of where John McCrae worked as a Medic treating his fellow soldiers of war at the Essex Farm Cemetery. The grave of 5750 Rifleman V.J. Strudwick of the Rifle Brigade who was kiiled at the age of 15yrs 0n 14 Jan 1916 can be found here. The impressive Menin Gate, a memorial to 55,000 missing soldiers and their sacrifice for "King and Country" We visited a Restored British Trench. Had lunch at the Hooge Crater Museum. The museum has a very impressive store of ammunition, guns, scenes of "Dug-outs". Pictures and histories of well known hero&such as Manfred Albrecht Freiherr Von Richtofen or the "Red Baron" The German flying ace. Scenes of "Hell-fire Corner" The last few pictures are of a German Soldiers Cemetery. The square stones that are evenly placed have 3-4 names of different soldiers. A stark contrast to the other war memorial graves. The tour operator of this worthwhile, interesting day is called quasimodo.(email:info@quasimodo.be ) Run by a Husband/Wife team it&an absolute must for WW1 Buffs. Would I go on it again?? YEEEEESSSS!!!!
