Nobody, but us! Only the most fit and mentally resilient men can become part of the elite airborne forces. Each prospective candidate must be able to perform at least 15 pull-ups, to perform a 100m dash in 13.5 seconds or less, and to cross a 3km distance in 14 minutes or less. Also, a candidate must be well-versed in weapon and military hardware use, as well as unarmed combat. The Airborne Forces, the highly mobile Arm of the RF Armed Forces, are designed to cover the enemy in the air and conduct combat operations in its rear. The Russian Airborne Forces are the means of the Supreme High Command of the RF Armed Forces and may form the basis for mobile forces. The Airborne Forces report directly to the Commander of the Airborne Forces and consist of the airborne divisions, brigades, units and facilities. Russia plans to spend billions of dollars in the next few years upgrading the arms and equipment its Airborne troops rely on, with weapons including new era airdrop artillery systems and hi-tech Ratnik-2 battle gear. Between now and 2025 the Russian Defense Ministry will spend around $70 billion on its infantry and airborne forces. This money will provide the "flying infantry" with the equipment these forces have needed for years.
