A comparison on the MW band between two active loop antennas. The MLA-30 vs Wellbrook ALA1530 S+. Each sell for a different pricepoint, the MLA-30 which I bought at around £30 being a lot cheaper than the Wellbrook which was almost £300. But which one is best? I tested them in trying to get a weak signal on 1512 kHz. In my view, the MLA-30 could see the signal & just about hear it, but the Wellbrook could also get the signal & get more audio. Notice that the Wellbrook had a higher noise floor than the MLA-30, but again it got the signal better in my opinion compared to the MLA-30. This I attribute to the loop size of the Wellbrook being larger than the MLA-30. In any case, the MLA-30 did well to receive the signal despite the lack of audio. I will be doing more comparison videos between these two antennas. Received in UK with an Elad FDM-S2. Both the MLA-30 & Wellbrook antennas were placed in the same position outdoors one at a time.
