Berlioz&Requiem, one of the most gigantic works in the repertoire, borders on the epic, far from the affliction that the funerary genre implies. Resulting from an official commission, the score was premiered at the Invalides with great success: "the impression was overwhelming (...), at the time of the Last Judgement, the terror produced by the five orchestras and the eight pairs of timpani accompanying the Tuba mirum (15:20) cannot be painted (...), it was of horrible grandeur" enthused Berlioz. Dimitri Mitropoulos succeeded in creating a miracle in concert, conducting the choirs and the Vienna Philharmonic.
