KavZ-685 is a Soviet middle-class bus with a bonnet layout on the GAZ-53-12 truck chassis. Produced at the Kurgan Bus Plant. The bus replaced the KavZ-651A model, the first prototypes appeared at the end of the 60s, the development of the new bus was supervised by the deputy chief designer of the plant S.V. Maltsev and I.F. Basov, artist-designer V.V. Fomenko. Since 1971, KavZ-685 has been produced in pilot batches. In 1975, instead of round taillights and brake lights, new, rectangular shapes were used. The front direction indicators were also changed - they became two-color. At the end of 1977 the bus was awarded the "Quality Mark". Later, various modifications of the bus were produced, which were produced until 1989, after which they were replaced on the conveyor by the KavZ-3976 model.
