US must apologize for GITMO abuses, prisoners’ prolonged suffering – UN expert

A UN representative has called on the US to answer for the abuses inflicted on inmates at the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison camp. She says an apology and the long-promised shutdown of the detention facility are necessary. Better known as GITMO and located in Cuba, the facility was established in 2002 as the so-called War on Terror was kicking into high gear.
