There was this comedy routine by a man named Jeff Foxworthy and he was talking about how people spoke in the south, and he said: ‘Jeet Yet?’ – ‘Naw, jew?” The other person would answer and say ‘Yon’t to’ the other person would say “Iaight”, which originally was more “D’jeet” - “Did ya eat?” but he said it like “jeet” so people started using it like jeet which means “Have you eaten yet?” “jeet yet?” So then he said … the other person would say “No, have you?” which was “Naw, jew”. Which originally was “Nah, d’you?” then he would say “Do you want to?” which would be “Yon’t to?” or “D’won’t to?” originally “Do you want to?” And the other person would say “Iaight”, which is “alright” that they were going to eat, but it wasn’t so much used like it is now until the comedy routine but yeah people say it in the south now more because of it
