Motherless Child, also known as “Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child”, this is a traditional spiritual dating back to the era of slavery in the United States. Early professional performances date back at least to the 1870s, with the first recording being made by Paul Robeson in 1926. Dozens of recordings have been made by groups as diverse as Richie Havens (at Woodstock); Boney M; Billy Preston; Van Morrison; Hootie and the Blowfish; Tom Jones; Prince; John Legend; and now (humbly) MUJ. This version is based mostly on the recording by Peter, Paul and Mary, 1965; performed/taught here on ukulele by Marco D.
