✏️The word "narcissist" is one of those interesting terms that have a broad meaning. A narcissist is a selfish person who is overly concerned with himself. A narcissist, from a psychological and psychiatric point of view, is a person who suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder (an official diagnosis). Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association (DSM-5) defines narcissism as a cluster B personality disorder that includes grandiosity fantasies and/or behavior, lack of empathy and need of admiration from others. With other words narcissists believe that they are the center of the universe. They care only about themselves and rarely show compassion for other people. Narcissism has its roots in childhood and has a wide impact on society. Narcissistic individuals feel better than others, fantasize about big success, and believe that they deserve special treatment. When they feel humiliated, they often behave aggressively or even cruelly. Knowledge of the origins of narcissism is important for developing measures to limit the development of narcissism. Research shows that narcissism occurs in childhood during early socialization, and suggests that parental intervention may help reduce narcissistic development.
