Sophie Tucker (January 13, 1886 – February 9, 1966) was a Ukrainian-born American singer, comedian, actress, and radio personality. Known for her powerful delivery of comical and risqué songs, she was one of the most popular entertainers in America during the first half of the 20th century. She was widely known by the superlative nickname "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas". Tucker died of lung cancer and kidney failure on February 9, 1966, aged 80, in New York City. She had continued working until the months before her death, playing shows at the Latin Quarter just weeks before. She is buried in Emanuel Cemetery, in Wethersfield, Connecticut, her home state. "Egyptian Ella" is an American jazz song, composed in 1930 by Walter Doyle. It has been performed and recorded by many artists such as Ted Weems, Fats Waller and Milt Herth. A version of the song appears in the 1945 film Bring On The Girls. Ella was a dancing girl who started getting fat, Every day brought two more pounds to Ella, Till one day she found she&lost her job because of that, Then to make it worse, she lost her fella! And so she sailed to Egypt to forget, But she made such a hit that she&there yet!
