P0411 P0491: B5 PASSAT - Secondary Air Injection Diagnostics and Repair

Today we are looking into the ENTIRE secondary air injection system on this B5.5 Passat. This system is a little complicated, so I wanted to make a video showing all of the pieces and how to diagnose them. It you have a P0411 or P0491 code, this should take you to the road of repair. The secondary air injection system is strictly an emissions system and rarely causes any issues with engine performance or fuel economy. Most people have a code set due to a malfunction. Others delete the system all together. If you are in an emissions testing state, you may not have the delete option.
